Born near Tehran, Iran, Fahimeh Vahdat emigrated to England and then to the US in1980, initially settling in Dallas, Texas. Ms.Vahdat attended Southern Methodist University receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts in1988 and a Master of Fine Art in painting and printmaking in 1990. Vahdat’s activist oriented multimedia installations are gaining international attention. Recent venues include the Centro de Recoleta, in Buenos Aires, Argentina and an exhibition in Naples, Italy. Vahdat was invited, in 2006, to exhibit and speak at the World Affair Conference at the University of Nebraska and was a featured artist at the Iranian Women Studies Foundation Convention at the University of Maryland. Numerous exhibitions around the US include Forum Gallery, Dallas, TX, Meadows Museum, Dallas TX, Rockford Art Museum, Rockford, IL, West Bend Art Museum, West Bend, WII to name a few. Grants received by Vahdat include The Rockefeller, & Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and The National Endowment for her multi-media Installation “Sacred Crossings.” She is currently Professor at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, where she has taught painting and printmaking for the past twelve years. |
